Barry Gibb was born on 1 September on the Isle of Man, a British Crown Dependency in the Irish Sea. He formed his first band, The Rattlesnakes, in His younger twin siblings, Robin and Maurice were also members of this skiffle group.

After moving to Australia, the Gibb brothers renamed their band, the Bee Gees.
