The pursuit of Integrity just lost a giant
Second Opinion QB is saddened to learn of the recent death of Dermod Travis, the tireless advocate for transparency and accountability across all levels of government.
Since 2011, Dermod has been the voice of Integrity BC as its Executive Director.
Many credit Dermod with cajoling reluctant BC governments into legislating electoral financing reform, finally enacted at the municipal level in time for the 2018 election.
These reforms place constraints on campaign spending as well as limits on individual donor contributions. Not perfect, with plenty of loopholes, but certainly a whole lot better than the “wild west” reputation BC had before advocates like Dermod bent their shoulder into the issue.
As a tribute to Dermod, and as a way to help readers understand this man’s character, style, intellect and energy, and to inspire others to pick up the torch, we share with you his suggested New Year’s Resolutions penned in December 2018.
